Philosophy
The "Power Behind the Bird" Soccer Camp is a week of fun and challenging soccer. The camp is designed to raise the level of soccer in the greater Hartford area. Campers are broken down into age and skill appropriate groups for technical skill work. The tactical side of the game is emphasized in older groups. Campers come back at nights and play in games to try and execute the activities worked on in the morning. Any aged soccer enthusiast, up to an incoming freshman in high school, may attend camp this camp.
Staff
The camp staff includes camp director Jack De Selm, NSCAA Associate Staff Coach, NSCAA Premier License, USSF Nationally Licensed Coach, Hartford United D.O.C. Tom Belfer, USSF National License and NSCAA National Diploma. Jim Schrot, NSCAA Associate Staff Coach, NSCAA Premier License, USSF National D License. Coach Schrot coaches multiple select teams at Hartord United Soccer Club and the JV-1 Boys at Hartford Union High School. Coach De Selm currently coaches the Varsity Boys at Hartford Union High School, was varsity assistant @ Cedarburg High School, and head coach with the Homestead High School girls program. Coach Belfer was the assistant coach for both boys and girls soccer at Cedarburg, and currently coaches and trains a number of select teams for Cedarburg Soccer Club.
Curriculum
The 2013 "Power Behind the Bird" curriculum is designed with emphasis on the technical and tactical aspects of the 5 v. 5 small-sided game. Monday's skills/tactics start with 1 v1, Tuesday 2 v. 2, Wednesday 3 v. 3, Thursday 4 v. 4, and Friday 5 v. 5. Night games are played as small sided soccer games with emphasis on the tactical portion of the game. Mastering the ball is the focus at the beginning of each day. Much of the camp curriculum is predicated on the NSCAA youth courses.
